These Excalibur Boltcutters have a cult-like following. They’re 150-grain and do the trick super well. I highly recommend these for hunters who shoot with an Excalibur bow for continuity, although they will work with all brands.

I have heard complaints from the design of this broadhead as the blades load from the top instead of the bottom, but for every person I hear from who says they wouldn’t get it again, I hear two more saying they wouldn’t get anything else.

The Grim Reaper is hands down one of the most cherished mechanical broadheads available.

This broadhead is built for high-powered crossbows, so if you’re looking at this broadhead, make sure you have a bow that shoots at a minimum of 300 feet per second. That being said, I really like the big 2″ diameter at the head. This badboy opens up an animal and leaves a big blood trail to find easily, which is also best for the animal.

It’s more ethical, more lethal, and works great. Its big build and compatibility with high-quality crossbows makes the Grim Reaper the best mechanical broadhead for elk hunting, and other mid-to-large sized animals.

People Also Asked

What are the best broadheads?

Broadheads come in both fixed and mechanical styles. On this review, I list the best broadheads on the market for both fixed and mechanical come from the same brand.

TRUGLO Titanium X– Fixed
TRUGLO Titanium X– Mechanical

What should be used to screw on broadheads

A wrench should be used to properly screw on broadheads. A slip in either direction can cause injury, so make sure to be careful.

What's best for a crossbow- 100 or 125-grain broadheads?

There are multiple factors to consider when deciding which grain of broadheads are best for you and your crossbow set up. First, check your arrow dimensions and manufacturer’s guide. If you have a 15 grain per inch arrow that’s 20 inches in length, than when you add up the entire arrow, the weight will be 300 grains. If you add 100 grains from the broadhead to that, it will then amount to 400 grains, or 425 grains for a 125-grain broadhead.

As a rule of thumb, the lighter the broadhead, the faster the arrow will shoot. However, the heavier the arrow with the broadhead, the more powerful penetration you’ll get with your animal.

Recap

Upgrading to broadheads is an awesome experience. It’s also ethical as it causes a faster kill. All in all, it’s creating a more lethal shot for your crossbow.

That being said, there are a lot of options out there, and finding the right broadhead for what you’re shooting, and the crossbow you’re shooting it with shouldn’t be a challenge.

For that reason, I wrote this review page. I hope it helps, and if you have any further questions, voice your favorite broadhead, post your words in the comment section below.

Happy shooting!
